Dr Steel is a consultant physician in older people’s medicine in NHS Lanarkshire.
Her specialty interest is Hospital at Home and she has been involved in this specialty for 10 years. She has been a director with the UK Hospital at Home Society for 2 years and this year is the new society President.
She currently works at the University Hospital Monklands in NHS Lanarkshire. She has been the clinical lead for the Hospital at Home Service for the past 4 years and has been pivotal in supporting the continuing growth of the service to allow all older patients in the health board equal access to a H@H service.
Dr Steel is passionate about equity of H@H services to all patients and is involved in interface work to look at delivering alternative models of healthcare outside the traditional hospital.
She works closely with Healthcare Improvement Scotland to support the growth and development of H@H in Scotland. She was on the advisory group for developing a professional framework for non-medical AHPs, and more recently was involved with the training curriculum for post-graduate doctors in NHS England H@H.
