Professor Graham Ellis
Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Scotland
Professor Graham Ellis is a Geriatrician in Lanarkshire in Central Scotland and a clinician with the Hospital at Home service since 2011. He was an undergraduate in Glasgow University and has trained and worked across the West of Scotland.
He has had a research interest in the organisation of acute services for older people since 2006 and was appointed as Honorary Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University's department of Health and Life Sciences in 2018.
He has worked in medical management in NHS Lanarkshire and was appointed as National Clinical Lead for Frailty in Healthcare Improvement Scotland in 2016.
In 2019 he was appointed as the National Clinical Advisor for Ageing and Health to the Chief Medical Officer in NHS Scotland. In Autumn 2020, Prof Ellis was instrumental in setting up an Older People’s policy unit within the Safety and Quality Improvement Division of the Scottish Government.
Graham was appointed as Deputy Chief Medical Officer in September 2021 supporting and deputising for the Chief Medical Officer and working closely with the Chief Scientist (Health) and a number of doctors within the Civil Service seconded from the NHS and administrative colleagues.
